As the name suggests, this is a trap in a drain or waste pipe that prevents grease from passing into a sewer system. 

Cafes, restaurants, takeaways and hotels are required to have grease traps fitted into wastewater systems. 

Grease traps need to be cleaned regularly or they can overflow and clog the sewer pipes. 

Cleaning frequency depends on the size of the trap and the business. Most of the grease traps we service in Northland are on a 3 or 6-month recall.
